G.O.A
ROLLING TROPHY
REAL BETALBATIM AND C.R.C CHINCHINIM WIN
Last Friday’s dull and dusty weather failed to dampen the spirits of
teams participating in the 18th edition of the G.O.A Rolling Trophy organized
by Goan Overseas Association (Goa Maroons) under the auspices of KIFF and
sponsored by Bassem International Trading Company at the MOH ground,
Shuwaikh.
Real Betalbatim - winners by tie breaker
Veteran Derrick Gomindes equalized for Real Betalbatim in a last gasp
goal to lead his team to victory in the tie breaker against Indian Strikers F.C
and C.R.C Chinchinim surprised Kuwait
Goan Association 4-1 in first round matches of this prestigious tournament. Derrick
who is now a guiding force behind Real Betalbatim brought himself on in the
second half with his team trailing 0-1 courtesy of cool finish by Indian Strikers
F.C forward Anthony Joseph, and ensured his team ended the game 1-1 with an
excellent goal in the dying minutes of the game. In the
ensuing penalty shootout, Real Betalbatim players kept their cool and with
goalkeeper Yogesh Chavan in outstanding form, to make sure of qualifying for
the next round.
Indian Strikers - lost via tie breaker
In the second match from the same group, C.R.C Chinchinim who have had a
rollercoaster season left the field on a high with brilliant goals from brothers
Joe and Sony Gomes to lead their team to a 4-1 victory against a strong Kuwait
Goan Association fielding the likes of Christeo and Jacob in the defense and
Rosario and Jose Fernandes upfront. The
first ten minutes of the game were no indication of what was to follow with
C.R.C keeper Anthony having to make a fine save and defender Lawrence and
midfielder Russel kept busy thwarting attacks from the KGA forwards. Things changed however after Joe Gomes scored
for C.R.C in a sudden countermove and brother Sony scored easily one of the
goals of the season with an overhead bicycle kick from inside the 18 yard
box. Sony added a second and Leslie Alemao
scored the fourth goal for C.R.C. Kuwait
Goan Association pulled one back towards the end of the game.
